This posts is similar to the Ubuntu one. Since Windows 10 is still in early stages, I am making this list.

1) Install Firefox

Yes. Internet Explorer still sucks and with Bing as default search, it sucks more.

I don’t admire Chrome at all as the browser add-ons and extensions that I use, aren’t supported in it. I run a 64 bit OS so I prefer Firefox 64 bit version.

Now that you have it installed, it’s so much better to look for installers and other info given below.

2) Install your graphics driver

My Sony Vaio (Z46GD) has the oddest display resolution and the graphics is powered by NVidia GeForce 9300M GS. The default driver works great but the resolution is not maximum and I can’t use my HDMI out. So the first few things to do is to download the best driver for your display.

Screen Resolution >> Advanced Setting >> Properties >> Driver >> Update Driver >> Search Automatically

If the above doesn’t give you the best resolution and output, go to the driver site of your display card manufacturer and download the driver.

I downloaded GeForce Experience to keep my drivers up to date. Unfortunately GeForce 9300M seems to be one of those cards that is not that well supported by NVidia.

3) Install Windows updates

I am running 9926 and Windows 10 10074 is already available.

Settings > Update & recovery > Advanced options: Choose Slow or Fast preview builds option.

Setting Slow/Fast is based on your appetite and internet speeds. Changing it to Fast gives you faster access to new technical previews.

4) Unpin, uninstall internet linked apps

Junk apps or apps of no use come inbuilt since Windows 8. The simplest way to uninstall apps is to right click the unwanted app and select uninstall from the options.  Some apps though can’t be removed, so you might not see the uninstall option.

5) Install those essential software

It’ time to update those heavily used software.

MS Office

Adobe Lightroom

VLC
