The queues at the airports in India seem to be getting longer and longer by the day. More so for budget carriers which is counter intuitive.
Budget airlines would want to reduce manpower at the airports and make consumers do more of the tasks themselves. One of this, includes web check-in. Now, some budget airlines are charging Rs.1000 – Rs.100, depending on the seat location. That’s anywhere between 25% to 2.5% of the fare. This in essence ensures that people turn up at the airports for a boarding pass. Which makes the queues more longer. Which makes people more frustrated standing in a queue. Which makes them not opt for the airline in future given a chance.
I would always trade off short term bottom-line for longer term top-line.
