{"id":65,"date":"2007-08-22T21:06:00","date_gmt":"2007-08-23T04:06:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rajiniravi.com\/ravi\/wp\/?p=65"},"modified":"2007-08-22T21:06:00","modified_gmt":"2007-08-23T04:06:00","slug":"mtv-youth-icon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ravi.rajiniravi.com\/blog\/2007\/08\/mtv-youth-icon\/","title":{"rendered":"MTV Youth icon??"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Orkut blog has a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.blog.orkut.com\/2007\/08\/new-youth-icon.html\" target=\"_blank\">post<\/a> on Orkut being voted the new youth icon by MTV in India.<\/p>\n<p>As soon as I saw the title of this post and the accompanying Doodle, the first fear I had, even before reading the post, was that this would be splashed on Orkut&#8217;s login page.<br \/><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"https:\/\/img1.orkut.com\/img\/mtv_doodle.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px;\" src=\"https:\/\/img1.orkut.com\/img\/mtv_doodle.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>And yes, as soon as I saw the login page of Orkut, my fears were proven right. Now, how can someone at Google be stupid enough to do it?<\/p>\n<p>The Marketing folks at MTV would be delighted by the free mileage they must be getting. Orkut attracts huge traffic in India (check this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/trends?q=orkut%2C+%22mtv%22&#038;ctab=0&amp;amp;amp;amp;geo=all&#038;date=all&amp;sort=0\" target=\"_blank\">trends <\/a>comparison on the traffic. Esp. in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/trends?q=orkut%2C+%22mtv%22&#038;ctab=0&amp;amp;amp;amp;geo=IN&#038;date=all&amp;sort=0\" target=\"_blank\">India<\/a>) and having your icon flashed free of cost on the homepage is something. I consider it the second biggest and costliest mistake this month by Orkut folks in India, the first was of course the Independence day stunt with really badly created <a href=\"http:\/\/en.blog.orkut.com\/2007\/08\/60-years-of-independence-tell-us-what.html\" target=\"_blank\">polls<\/a> (see the choices given in the polls, if you still don&#8217;t get it read the comments. &#8220;<span style=\"font-style: italic;\">I am shocked<\/span>&#8220;, &#8221;   <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Shame on u<\/span>&#8221; are but a few).<\/p>\n<p>Facebook, here I come!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Orkut blog has a post on Orkut being voted the new youth icon by MTV in India.
