{"id":458,"date":"2011-04-29T02:15:17","date_gmt":"2011-04-29T09:15:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rajiniravi.com\/ravi\/wp\/?p=458"},"modified":"2012-07-20T00:12:38","modified_gmt":"2012-07-19T18:42:38","slug":"analysis-of-adtechin-tweets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ravi.rajiniravi.com\/blog\/2011\/04\/analysis-of-adtechin-tweets\/","title":{"rendered":"Analysis of #adtechin tweets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On 27th of April, my twitter feed started showing a number of tweets with the hash tag <a title=\"#adtechin search on twitter\" href=\"http:\/\/search.twitter.com\/search?q=#adtechin\" target=\"_blank\">adtechin<\/a>. Within an hour it became #2 trending topic in India &#8211; #1 being a <a title=\"What is promoted trend?\" href=\"http:\/\/support.twitter.com\/articles\/282142\" target=\"_blank\">promoted trend<\/a> &#8211; and stayed there for a full 2 days! I realized that a group of digital media guys were attending an <a title=\"Ad Tech\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ad-tech.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">event on digital marketing<\/a> in <a title=\"AdTech New Delhi\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ad-tech.com\/newdelhi\/adtech_new_delhi.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">New Delhi<\/a> and tweeting away all sorts of things. Seeing the number of tweets, I was curious to find out what it was all about.<\/p>\n<p>So I got a quick fix program to download all tweets with <a title=\"#adtechin search on twitter\" href=\"http:\/\/search.twitter.com\/search?q=#adtechin\" target=\"_blank\">#adtechin<\/a>. This program did a fairly good job of downloading tweets and I downloaded the tweet id, username, date, time and of course the status message.\u00a0 I would have loved to download <a title=\"Tweet with your location\" href=\"http:\/\/support.twitter.com\/groups\/31-twitter-basics\/topics\/109-tweets-messages\/articles\/122236-how-to-tweet-with-your-location\" target=\"_blank\">location<\/a> and client data as well to analyze. Will edit the program to do that as well when I have time.<\/p>\n<p>Anyways, the following is the analysis of 3132 tweets captured between 10.12 AM on Apr 27th to 10.12 AM on Apr 29th. The program might have missed downloading certain retweets with the <a title=\"what is retweet\" href=\"http:\/\/support.twitter.com\/articles\/77606-what-is-retweet-rt\" target=\"_blank\">retweet link<\/a> on web. And because I couldn&#8217;t capture tweets before 10.12 on Wednesday, I cut off all tweets posts post 48 hrs to keep tweet data of 2 full days.\u00a0 Keep that in mind before you read on<a name=\"top\"><\/a>.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"#1\">Tweet Trend<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#2\">Top Tweeters<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#3\">Retweets &amp; trends<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#4\">What got tweeted about<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><a name=\"1\"><\/a><strong>1. Tweet Trend<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-505\" title=\"Tweet-trend\" src=\"http:\/\/ravi.rajiniravi.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Tweet-trend1-300x119.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"119\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-506\" title=\"Tweet-Day1&amp;2\" src=\"http:\/\/ravi.rajiniravi.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Tweet-Day121-300x122.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"122\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Though I didn&#8217;t capture all tweets from day 1, its safe to assume that the maximum tweets happened between 10-11 and 12-1. My captured data shows 15% &amp; 14% of tweets were generated during this time band respectively.<\/p>\n<p>The tweets generated at the beginning of the day&#8217;s and towards the end were not surprising as the main keynotes were during these <a title=\"AdTech New Delhi Schedule\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ad-tech.com\/newdelhi\/adtech_new_delhi_schedule.aspx?sesstype=1,2,5,6,7\" target=\"_blank\">time slots<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The surprise was during the day 2, 12-1 noon&#8230; Hmm, Social Media got everyone excited.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#top\">Go back to top<\/a><a name=\"top\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a name=\"2\"><\/a><strong>2. Top Tweeters<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A whopping 560 members tweeted with the hashtag. I wonder how many of them were tweeting from the venue itself as seeing this <a title=\"team which made it possible\" href=\"http:\/\/twitpic.com\/4qixbh\" target=\"_blank\">pic<\/a> (courtesy <a title=\"Twitter profile - mprasanth\" href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/mprasanth\" target=\"_blank\">mprasanth<\/a>), I don&#8217;t think more than 350-400 people could have been seated in the conference room.<\/p>\n<p>5% of these users generated 44.4% of all tweets. The tweets generated adhered nicely to the 80-20 rule as well. 80% of tweets were generated by 23.6% of users (76.9%-20%).<\/p>\n<p>And the top 10 tweeters were (name, tweets, % of all tweets generated)&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/naina\" target=\"_blank\">naina<\/a>: 194 :: 6.2%<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/spuriousmallu\" target=\"_blank\">spuriousmallu<\/a>: 82 :: 2.6%<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/kushalsanghvi\" target=\"_blank\">kushalsanghvi<\/a>: 78 :: 2.5%<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/mekkanikal\" target=\"_blank\">mekkanikal<\/a>: 74 :: 2.4%<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/Campaign_India\" target=\"_blank\">Campaign_India<\/a>: 71 :: 2.3%<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/amithpr\" target=\"_blank\">amithpr<\/a>: 69 :: 2.2%<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/mprasanth\" target=\"_blank\">mprasanth<\/a>: 49 :: 1.6%<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/sandy_budhiraja\" target=\"_blank\">sandy_budhiraja<\/a>: 46 :: 1.5%<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/morpheushere\" target=\"_blank\">morpheushere<\/a>: 46 :: 1.5%<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/shagorikah\" target=\"_blank\">shagorikah<\/a>: 45 :: 1.4%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The point to note though, is some top tweeters (probably the organizers) went overboard praising the sessions in the tweets. The # of adjectives (fantastic, awesome, super, great, magical) were a complete overkill as one tweeter <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/\/#!\/Praval\/status\/63416462039195650\" target=\"_blank\">noted<\/a> and which a lot of other tweeters agreed to!<\/p>\n<p>Bandwagon effect!<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Day2 had 375 tweeters, 16% more than Day1.<\/li>\n<li>In the same time band of 10AM-8PM, Day 2 generated 22% more tweets.<\/li>\n<li>Of the 560 tweeters, 137 users tweeted on the topic on both days. 185 only on the first day and238 only on the second day.<\/li>\n<li>The guys who came in only on day 2, generated 28% of day 2 tweets and a large number of these tweets were re-tweets.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And I with about 6 comments was ranked 136th (top quartile) in the list in terms of tweets generated. Not bad for some one not at the venue :).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#top\">Go back to top<\/a><a name=\"top\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a name=\"3\"><\/a><strong>3.\u00a0 ReTweets and Trends<\/strong><a name=\"3\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-481\" title=\"ReTweet-trend\" src=\"http:\/\/ravi.rajiniravi.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/ReTweet-trend-300x170.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"170\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Retweets followed a similar time trend as tweets.
