While writing the post on C-section birth statistics in G North ward <\/a>(data was for 3.5 months) in Mumbai, I was acutely aware that I was looking at a ward that contained Dharavi and data would probably be skewed towards what was happening in Government hospitals. At the same time, I wondered what would the statistic be for a Bandra or a Khar West where a higher strata of the society lived.<\/p>\n

This prompted me to start downloading data for the entire MCGM<\/a> limits. Finally managed to download data of all birth during October 2015 for the MCGM limits.<\/p>\n

The data I downloaded was for 15,099 births (there might be some errors & records missing in this data, but it should not be more than 100 records). About 4,961 of them, or 32.9%, were thru Caesarean section (this number has crept up from 26% for the G\/N ward alone<\/a>). Another 716, or 4.7% were assisted by forceps \/ vacuum.<\/p>\n
