Ravindra
I was born in ’79 in Hyderabad. Moved to Chennai and then Kolkata for my graduate and post graduate studies. Since 2004, I have been staying in Mumbai on work.
Post my first 14 years of Schooling, in 2 different schools (1, 2) till 10th, I moved to a quaint little College called APRJC on the banks of a reservoir built on river Krishna at Nagarjunasagar. Those 2 years were spent mugging profusely, sometimes more than 15 hours a day so much so that I have very little memories of that place left :).
Then landed up at IIT Madras in Chennai for a degree in Mechanical Engineering. More than anything else, I met and made friends with some amazing people at Godavari Hostel. Immediately moved to IIM Calcutta in Kolkata for doing Post Grad in Management. There, I majored in marketing, systems and strategy.
During my summers (2 month internship) at IIMC, I worked with Johnson and Johnson Consumer Products (@ Mumbai , India) and they were impressed enough to give me a job immediately.
From May 2003 to November 2012, I worked with Johnson and Johnson Consumer Products. In Marketing, I was fortunate to work on some amazing brands like Band-Aid, Johnson’s baby and Listerine and tinker/shape some consumer perceptions about these brands. In Sales, I helped the company get a hang on how it was achieving sales thru data capture, fundamental but harder than you think and later helped (rather learned myself) a handful of Indian retailers as well as a couple of international retailers understand how to sell a few categories.
Then moved to Colgate Palmolive for a short period in 2013 and worked on Personal and Home Care, Mouthwash, Sensitive Toothpastes, a yet to be launched product and Shopper Marketing. Yes, that’s a lot of things, at the same time, for a short time. Again, more than anything else, amazing amount of learning and exposure to a different culture.
Post Colgate, I worked at Escape Velocity, a boutique business & marketing strategy consulting firm to help clients accelerate business growth. Here, I got to work across a plethora of industries and sectors – transportation, adhesives, education, retail analytics, beverages, b2b products and services, apparel and of course FMCG (1,2) and advice them on a number of problems from market mapping to business strategy, from corporate branding to regular branding, from line extensions to new product development, from go to market to route to market, and of course training on analytics and marketing capability building.
I now work at Emami Limited, and handle the challenging male grooming portfolio.
Rajini entered my life and we have been happily married since 2009.
Rajini is the one who forced me to setup this space on the web to announce our getting together and marriage story. This didn’t turn out that way, but both of us write our thoughts sometimes here.
This is my 2nd such space on the internet. The first blog content at geocities/lycos (IITM & IIMC days) is lost thanks to that site winding up and my bad archiving. Big treat, if someone helps me restore posts from there.
