During this pandemic, in India, the elephant in the room has to be opening of schools and remote learning.
The majority of kids (and schools) who don’t have access to good Internet are falling behind on the learning curve and they are the ones who need regular and good schooling the most. Among the many inequalities the pandemic is amplifying, this is the one which has significant long term social effects.
Many of us who are happy seeing our kids putting long hours online, don’t understand the basics of learning theory. And, I do not think the best of schools and teachers have got a good grasp of online Pedagogy in 2 months to roll out tons of online classes.
With no control of the pandemic in sight, we should be hearing more about this issue from the government.
Many have woken up to the sad state of public healthcare. It’s high time we wake up to the neglected state of education as well.
